Te mapa
Beipiao lies in the hilly west of Liaoning province, within the prefecture of Chaoyang. The urban area follows a valley, so on a map it appears as an elongated band of streets hemmed in by slopes, with roads and a railway threading along the valley floor. Beyond the town, the terrain rises into dry hills crossed by winding roads and small villages.
The city grew around coal mining, which shaped its industry and much of its twentieth-century development. It is also known to palaeontologists worldwide: the countryside around Beipiao contains fossil sites, notably at Sihetun, where exceptionally preserved feathered dinosaurs and early birds have been found. These discoveries changed scientific understanding of how birds evolved.
A Beipiao map poster shows a city whose shape is dictated by terrain. The valley gives it a long, directional outline, and the places where hills push close to the streets make the composition feel carved rather than drawn. Framed wider, the surrounding roads trace the contours of the hills in fine, irregular lines.
The town stretches along a valley floor, giving the map a long, narrow shape framed by open hillsides that rise on either side.
A railway runs along the valley through the city, forming a straight line that anchors the composition and recalls the town's mining past.
Roads beyond the urban area wind around hills and ravines, producing fine, contour-like lines that contrast with the denser streets in town.
