Te mapa
Bibir Hat is a market town in the Chittagong Division of southeastern Bangladesh, north of the port city of Chittagong. The word hat means a market in Bengali, and many towns in the region grew around such trading places. From above, the settlement forms a cluster of streets around its main roads, with the densest area near the commercial centre.
The surrounding landscape is green and finely divided. Rice fields, ponds and small villages spread across the low ground, while to the east the land begins to rise towards the hills of the Chittagong region. Rivers and streams wind through the countryside, and roads follow the higher, drier ground between the fields.
A Bibir Hat map poster shows a place that is shaped by trade and agriculture rather than by grand planning. The street network is irregular, the ponds appear as small solid shapes, and the lines thin out gradually into the countryside. It is a modest, honest portrait of a rural Bangladeshi town.
The streets are densest around the commercial centre, where the main roads meet, reflecting the town's origin as a place of trade.
Small ponds and rice fields surround the built area, creating a finely broken pattern of shapes across the low, flat land.
To the east the ground starts to rise towards the hill country of the Chittagong region, and roads begin to curve with the terrain.
