Te mapa
Rangamati is the main town of the Rangamati Hill District in south-eastern Bangladesh, in the Chittagong Hill Tracts. Its map is dominated by water. Kaptai Lake, a large reservoir formed when the Karnaphuli River was dammed in the early 1960s, winds between the hills in long, branching arms.
The town occupies ridges and peninsulas between these arms. Roads follow the high ground, and many neighbourhoods are almost surrounded by water. Small islands lie offshore, and boats are an everyday way of getting around. A well-known suspension bridge crosses one of the inlets and has become a symbol of the town.
The lake's creation flooded valleys and displaced many people, mostly from the Chakma and other indigenous communities of the hills. A Rangamati map poster shows the shape the water left behind: a network of fingers and islands, and a town strung along the ridges between them.
The reservoir fills the valleys around the town in long, dendritic arms. It creates a coastline of inlets and headlands in the middle of the hills.
Streets follow the high ground between the water arms. The result is a winding, branching network rather than a grid.
A suspension footbridge spans one of the lake inlets. It is one of the town's best-known sights and a clear crossing point on the map.

Koteā ko Rangamati
Rangamati's outline is unlike almost any other town's, with land and water interlocking in intricate patterns. It makes a striking print for anyone who has lived in the Hill Tracts or crossed the lake by boat.
Add a title, subtitle and coordinates line, and choose one of five styles. Blueprint brings out the lake, and Noir sets the ridges against dark water.
