Te mapa
Biên Hòa lies on the Đồng Nai River, northeast of Ho Chi Minh City, and the river shapes the map. It sweeps past the city centre in broad bends. Along the way it splits around islands, the best known being Cù Lao Phố. The older streets gather close to the water, and the rest of the city spreads out over the level ground to the east and south.
Cù Lao Phố was among the first trading settlements in the south of Vietnam. Merchants set up there in the late seventeenth century, and the island's outline in the river marks where the city began. On today's map it appears as a leaf-shaped piece of land between two channels. It is linked to the banks by bridges, and a small grid of streets sits inside it.
Modern Biên Hòa is best known as an industrial centre. Its large factory estates appear as big rectangular parcels with wide internal roads, a very different pattern from the tight lanes near the river. Major highways and a railway pass through toward Ho Chi Minh City. A Biên Hòa map poster shows both layers: a river-trading town and the planned industrial city that grew around it.
The broad river curves along the western side of the city and gives the map a strong, flowing edge. Its channels branch and rejoin around islands.
This island in the river was the site of an early trading settlement. On the map its outline sits between channels, with bridges reaching it from both sides.
Large, rectangular zones of factories and roads fill parts of the city. Their clean geometry contrasts with the older streets near the water.

Koteā ko Biên Hòa
Many people have come to Biên Hòa for work and stayed, and many others grew up beside its river. A map of the city marks a chapter of life in a way a photograph often can't, with the whole place shown at once.
