Te mapa
Boldumsaz lies in Daşoguz province in the far north of Turkmenistan, close to the border with Uzbekistan. The surrounding land is a flat, irrigated plain within the wider oasis of the lower Amu Darya, and on a map the town appears as a compact grid of streets set inside a much larger pattern of fields, irrigation channels and straight rural roads.
The region's life depends on water brought from the Amu Darya through a network of canals, and agriculture, particularly cotton and grain, shapes the landscape. Many towns here were laid out or expanded in the Soviet period, which explains the regular street blocks, and the town itself was known by a different name before Turkmenistan's independence.
A Boldumsaz map poster is quiet and geometric. The town's streets form a clear rectangle of blocks, while around them straight canals and field boundaries divide the plain into long strips and squares. The absence of hills or coastline gives the image an unusual calm, carried entirely by line and rhythm.
The town centre is laid out in orderly blocks, a pattern shared by many district towns in northern Turkmenistan.
Straight and gently curving canals cross the surrounding plain, carrying water from the Amu Darya system to the fields.
Rectangular farm plots fill the space around the town, turning the outer map into a fine, almost textile-like pattern.
