Borba Map Poster & Print

Borba lies on the Madeira River in Brazil's Amazonas state, and on a map the river is by far the largest feature. The broad channel, its sandbanks and side waters take up much of the frame, and the town's short street grid sits on the bank above it. Past the last streets, the map opens into forest and seasonal floodplain.

Borba ranks among the oldest towns in the state of Amazonas, with its origins in an eighteenth-century mission settlement on the Madeira. For most of its history the river has been its main link to the rest of Brazil, and the waterfront is where the town meets that route. The layout is simple and compact.

A Borba map poster shows how small human settlements sit against the scale of the Amazon basin. A modest grid on a vast river makes a striking composition, especially in the Blueprint or Noir styles. It is a meaningful keepsake for people from Borba and for anyone who has travelled the Madeira.

The Madeira River

One of the Amazon's major tributaries flows past the town, and its wide channel and sandbanks dominate most of the map.

02

Compact waterfront grid

Borba's streets form a small regular grid on the riverbank, and they end at the waterfront where boats have long linked the town.

03

Forest and floodplain

Around the town, the map opens into forest and low-lying land shaped by the seasonal rise and fall of the river.
