Te mapa
Brownsville sits at the southern tip of Texas, on the north bank of the Rio Grande, across from Matamoros in Mexico. The river's meanders form the southern edge of the city and the international border, with bridges crossing to the Mexican side. The Gulf of Mexico lies a short distance to the east.
A striking feature of the map is the resacas. These old, cut-off channels of the Rio Grande curve through the neighbourhoods as thin, looping lakes. The downtown grid sits near the river, while newer subdivisions and highways spread north. A long ship channel runs east to the Port of Brownsville.
Just north of today's city, the Battle of Palo Alto in 1846 opened the Mexican–American War. Out at Boca Chica, SpaceX has built its launch site. A Brownsville map poster shows a border city shaped by a wandering river and its old channels.
The border river winds in tight loops along the southern edge of the city. On the map it forms an unmistakable meandering line.
Former river channels curve through residential areas as narrow crescent lakes. They give Brownsville's street plan its distinctive curves.
A long, straight channel runs from the port toward the Gulf. It stands out clearly against the flat coastal plain.

Koteā ko Brownsville
Brownsville has a strong bond with families on both sides of the river, with military and university communities, and with people who grew up among its resacas. The river border makes the poster immediately readable.
