Te mapa
Buffalo sits at the eastern end of Lake Erie, where the lake narrows into the Niagara River. Surveyor Joseph Ellicott laid out the original town in the early nineteenth century with broad avenues radiating from Niagara Square, a plan influenced by Washington, D.C., and those diagonals still converge on City Hall in the heart of downtown.
Later that century Frederick Law Olmsted designed a connected park system for the city, with Delaware Park at its centre and tree-lined parkways and circles linking it to smaller parks. On a Buffalo map poster the parkways show up as wide, graceful lines cutting across the residential grid, one of the most distinctive urban patterns in the country.
Buffalo grew as the western terminus of the Erie Canal, and the Buffalo River and harbour to the south are still lined with the grain elevators that once served the lake trade. Along the Niagara River, the Peace Bridge crosses to Fort Erie in Canada, adding an international line to the western edge of the map.

Delaware Park, circles and tree-lined parkways form a connected green chain across the north side, drawn as sweeping lines through the regular street grid.
Lake Erie and the Niagara River frame the city to the west, with the Buffalo River and its grain elevator district curling along the south.

Koteā ko Buffalo
Buffalo inspires real loyalty, and its map carries the city's ambition in its lines: radial streets, a planned park system and a waterfront that once served a continent. It makes a strong piece for a first home or a gift for someone who moved away.
