Te mapa
Bukit Timah takes its name from the hill at its centre, the highest natural point in Singapore at a little over 160 metres. From above, the summit area is a green void: the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve protects one of the last patches of primary rainforest on the island, and its trails show as a fine web of paths among the trees.
Around the reserve, the district is mostly low-rise and residential, with curving streets of landed houses and condominium estates. Bukit Timah Road and Dunearn Road run as a paired corridor through the area toward the city, while the green line of the former railway corridor passes alongside. The Singapore Botanic Gardens lie at the district's edge.
A Bukit Timah map poster shows how nature and city meet in one of Singapore's most distinctive neighbourhoods. The dense green core, the looping residential streets and the straight arterial roads create a composition that feels quite different from the high-rise grid most people associate with the island.
The nature reserve covers the hill in forest, appearing as a large open shape crossed only by thin walking trails, the highest ground in Singapore.
Bukit Timah Road and Dunearn Road run side by side toward the city centre, forming a strong double line through the district.
The former railway line, now a green walking and cycling path, traces a long, gentle curve through the area on its route across Singapore.
