Te mapa
Caibarién lies on the north coast of Cuba, in Villa Clara province, on a flat shoreline facing a wide, shallow bay scattered with islands. The town is laid out on a regular grid of blocks, and from above its streets run straight down to the waterfront, where a small harbour and fishing piers meet the sea. Beyond the town, mangroves and salt flats blur the edge of the land.
Caibarién has long been a fishing and port town, and in recent decades it has also become the starting point of the causeway that runs across the bay to the resort islands of the northern cays, including Cayo Santa María. On a map that causeway stretches out into the water as a long, thin line.
A Caibarién map poster shows a town defined by its relationship to the sea. The grid is neat and compact, the coastline is soft and irregular, and the open water takes up much of the frame. It is a calm, balanced composition, fitting for a small port that looks out toward the cays.
The town's regular grid runs straight to the waterfront, where the streets end at the bay, giving a clear, orderly pattern that stands out against the open water.
A long road causeway leaves the coast near Caibarién and crosses the bay to the northern cays, a thin line crossing open water on a wider map.
Around the town the shoreline breaks into mangroves, lagoons and salt flats, creating an irregular, fragmented edge between the land and the shallow sea.

Caibarién is a place that Cubans abroad remember well, and one that travellers pass through on the way to the cays. A map of the town keeps the grid, the harbour and the bay in view.
