Te mapa
Catete is a neighbourhood in Rio de Janeiro's South Zone, between Glória and Flamengo. Rua do Catete, the main street, runs through it lengthwise and carries buses and shops, with the metro line beneath. On a map, dense blocks fill a narrow strip between the Flamengo waterfront parkland and the hills rising inland.
The neighbourhood is best known for the Palácio do Catete, which was the seat of Brazil's presidency while Rio was the capital and now houses the Museum of the Republic. Its gardens show up on a Catete map poster as a green rectangle inside the dense street pattern.
Toward the bay, Aterro do Flamengo, a large park built on reclaimed land, separates the neighbourhood from the water with lawns, paths and fast roads. Toward the hills, streets end in steep slopes. That compression between sea and mountain is typical of Rio and very clear from above.
The neighbourhood's main street runs as a long line through the middle and ties it to Glória and Flamengo. It sets the direction of the whole street pattern.
The grounds of the Palácio do Catete form a quiet green block between the buildings. On the map they are one of the few open spaces in the neighbourhood.
Toward the bay, the wide park on reclaimed land spreads between the streets and the water, with its curving paths and roads.

Koteā ko Catete
Catete is a place people live in, study in and pass through every day, and it stays in the memory. A map of the neighbourhood is a personal marker of a Rio address or a period of life in the city.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example with a street or year, and choose one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand.
