Changle lies in the south of Guangxi, on the low, largely flat country that stretches toward the Gulf of Tonkin. From above, the town is a relatively compact cluster of streets surrounded by farmland, ponds and small watercourses. Main roads run outward across the plain and connect it with larger towns in the region.
Without steep terrain to shape it, the street network is governed mostly by roads and water. The built-up area tends to grow along the main routes, and newer blocks at the edges are more regular than the tighter streets near the centre. Fields and ponds press close to the town, leaving a patchwork of open space around it.
