Te mapa
Chungju lies in the middle of South Korea and often describes itself as the country's geographical centre. On a map, the Namhan River runs through the region, and the city's streets spread over the flat land beside it. Hills rise around the valley, and farmland and orchards fill the space between them.
East of the city, the Chungju Dam holds back Chungju Lake, a long reservoir that winds through the mountains with many arms and inlets. Near the river lies Tangeumdae, where a major battle of the 1592 Japanese invasion was fought. The area is also well known for its apples.
A Chungju map poster combines a compact city grid with water and hills. The branching shape of the lake is especially striking in monochrome. The river, the surrounding slopes and the city in between make it an appealing picture of inland Korea.

The Namhan River flows past the city on its way towards Seoul. Its broad curves give the map a strong natural line.
This riverside hill is the site of a major battle in 1592 during the Japanese invasion. Today it is a park with views over the water.

Koteā ko Chungju
Chungju means something to people who grew up in central Korea, studied here or spent summers by the lake. A map of the city links the everyday streets to the river and mountains around them.
