Te mapa
Jeongseon Alpine Centre lies on the slopes of Gariwangsan in Gangwon Province, South Korea. It was built for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, where it hosted the speed events of alpine skiing, including the downhill and super-G. From above, the map is dominated by a long, cleared corridor running down the mountain through dense forest, ending in a small finish area near the valley floor.
Few places are so clearly defined by a single event. The course was designed to international downhill standards, with steep pitches, long turns and a large vertical drop. On a Jeongseon Alpine Centre map poster that line becomes the whole story, a narrow ribbon cut through the forest and framed by the mountain's steep, heavily contoured flanks.
The venue has also been the subject of debate. Gariwangsan had been a protected forest area, and building the course required clearing old trees, which led to discussions about restoring the slope after the Games. That tension between sport and landscape is visible on the map, where a straight human-made cut crosses otherwise untouched mountain terrain.
The Olympic race course cuts a long, clean line from the summit toward the base. On the poster it is the central feature, contrasting sharply with the forest around it.
At the bottom, the course opens into a compact area of buildings and access roads. It forms the only real cluster of built shapes on the sheet.
The mountain's steep, forested sides surround the course on every side. Dense contour lines show the scale of the terrain that made it suitable for Olympic speed events.
