Te mapa
Dagana lies on the south bank of the Senegal River in northern Senegal, in the Saint-Louis region. The river forms the border with Mauritania here, and on a map it is the dominant feature: a broad, curving band of water with the town on one side and the opposite bank on the other.
Dagana was one of the trading posts established along the river during the colonial period, when the Senegal was an important route inland. Today, the surrounding valley is known for irrigated agriculture, especially rice. Irrigation channels and field plots cover the land near the river in regular patterns, very different from the dry country further away.
A Dagana map poster shows a town defined by its river. The streets sit along the bank, the water curves through the frame, and the irrigated fields form a finely drawn pattern on the flood plain. In black and white, the combination of river, town and fields makes a strong, clear image.
The river runs past the town in a wide curve and marks the border with Mauritania. It is the main shape of the poster, dividing the frame.
Dagana's streets are laid out along the south bank. Its position on the water reflects its history as a trading post on the river route.
Rice fields and irrigation channels cover the land near the river in regular plots. They add a precise, geometric texture to the flood plain.
