Te mapa
Dammam lies on the Persian Gulf coast in eastern Saudi Arabia, and its map is shaped by planning at a large scale. From above, wide highways and long straight streets divide the land into big rectangular districts. The shoreline has been reshaped by land reclamation, so the corniche follows smooth, deliberate curves instead of a natural coast. Inland, the grid gives way to open desert.
The city forms one metropolitan area with Khobar and Dhahran to the south, and on the map the three read almost as one continuous grid along the coast. King Abdulaziz Port, one of the largest in the Gulf, gives the northern waterfront a heavy, angular outline of piers and basins. On a Dammam map poster, the contrast between sharp port structures and the open sea is especially striking.
Dammam grew quickly after oil was found nearby. In 1938, the well known as Dammam No. 7 at Dhahran became the first commercially productive oil well in Saudi Arabia, changing the region's future. The city is the capital of the Eastern Province. The King Fahd Causeway to Bahrain starts not far to the south.

The waterfront follows smooth, reclaimed curves along the Gulf. It gives the map a long, clean edge between the dense grid and the open sea.
The piers and docks of the large commercial port stretch into the water in strong, rectangular shapes on the northern side of the city.

Dammam holds a place for people who worked in the oil industry, grew up in the Eastern Province, or spent years on the Gulf coast. Its bold grid looks sharp in Noir or Blueprint.
