Te mapa
Manama occupies the northeastern corner of Bahrain Island, facing the waters of the Gulf. The historic core around the souq is a tight network of lanes, while much of the city to the north and east stands on land reclaimed from the sea. The difference is plain on the map: dense old streets on one side, and broad avenues and large regular plots on the new ground.
Bab al-Bahrain, the gateway to the old souq, once stood near the shoreline, before reclamation pushed the coast outwards. Causeways connect Manama with Muharraq, the neighbouring island and former capital. On the waterfront, the Bahrain World Trade Center and Bahrain Financial Harbour add distinctive shapes to the skyline and the coast.
A Manama map poster reveals how much the coastline has changed, with straight reclaimed edges beside the older, irregular shore. It is a fitting print for people who grew up in Bahrain and for those who lived here for work, and for anyone drawn to cities that have been reshaped by building out into the sea.
The market district around Bab al-Bahrain is the densest part of the map. Its narrow lanes form an intricate pattern at the city's historic centre.
Much of the northern waterfront stands on reclaimed land. Its straight edges and large plots contrast sharply with the older streets inland.
Roads across the water link Manama with the island of Muharraq and draw clean lines over the shallows to the northeast.
