Te mapa
Dandong lies on the lower Yalu River, near where it meets the Yellow Sea, and looks straight across to the North Korean city of Sinuiju. On a map the river is the dominant line, broad and slightly curving. Dandong's streets are packed along its northern bank, with hills rising behind them to the northwest.
Two bridges stand side by side in the centre. The Sino-Korean Friendship Bridge still carries road and rail traffic. The neighbouring Yalu River Broken Bridge, damaged during the Korean War, stops midstream. From above the pair makes a striking detail: one line completes the crossing, and the other ends abruptly over the water.
Upriver, the Hushan section of the Great Wall climbs a ridge near the border, and islands in the river split the current into channels. A Dandong map poster shows a border city in plan form, where the river is both a boundary and the reason the city exists.
The wide river runs along the whole southern side of the city. It marks the border with North Korea and gives the map its long, gentle curve.
The Friendship Bridge and the Broken Bridge cross side by side, one reaching the far bank and one ending partway. The detail stays clear even at poster scale.
Streets run roughly parallel to the Yalu and climb inland toward the hills, forming a compact downtown pressed between the water and higher ground.

Koteā ko Dandong
Dandong is a place many people remember from a single visit to the riverbank, and a place others call home. The map shows its unusual position clearly and looks especially strong in a minimalist frame.
