Te mapa
Haicheng is a county-level city in Liaoning Province under the administration of Anshan. It sits where the flat Liao River plain meets hills to the east. The urban area is laid out mostly as a regular grid of broad streets, with a river passing along its side and rail lines and expressways running north toward Anshan and south toward the coast.
The city is known in seismology for the 1975 Haicheng earthquake. Authorities issued a warning and evacuated residents shortly before the shock, an event still studied as a rare case of an acted-upon earthquake forecast. The area also holds large magnesite deposits, and it is a well-known centre for the clothing wholesale trade.
A Haicheng map poster displays a disciplined northern Chinese city plan. It shows long straight avenues, large blocks and clear transport corridors, and the land starts to rise at the eastern edge. The composition is orderly and calm, with enough river and hill terrain around it to keep the grid from feeling rigid.
Broad avenues divide the city into large, even blocks, a typical plan in northeastern China. It forms a clean, strongly geometric centre.
A river runs past the urban area and gives the grid a natural boundary and a soft curve against its straight lines.
Railway lines and expressways run north and south through the plain and link the city with Anshan and the Liaodong coast.
