Te mapa
Yingkou sits where the Liao River reaches Liaodong Bay, at the northern end of the Bohai Sea, and its map is shaped by the estuary. The river curves along the northern edge of the older city before widening toward the sea. The central streets follow its bank, and newer districts spread south and east across the flat coastal plain.
In the nineteenth century the town was a treaty port, known to foreign traders as Newchwang, and it handled much of Manchuria's trade by sea. Today the main port activity has shifted south to Bayuquan, a separate coastal district with large harbour basins. The city is still one of the main gateways to northeast China by sea.
A Yingkou map poster centres on that meeting of river and bay. The broad curve of the Liao gives the print its main line, with the older grid laid out along the bank and wider modern blocks beyond. Because the coast is so flat, the sea and river take up a large share of the frame, giving it a calm, open feel.
The river curves past the older city before opening into the bay, a wide, flowing line that frames the northern edge of the map.
The historic treaty-port district sits along the riverbank, where streets run close and parallel to the water in a compact grid.
South of the centre, the land is low and open, and newer districts spread across it in large regular blocks toward the shore of Liaodong Bay.
