Te mapa
Dara, often written Dahra, lies in the Louga Region of northern Senegal, in the historic Djolof area. It is a town of the Sahel, surrounded by flat, sandy land used mainly for grazing, and it is known nationally for its large livestock market, where herders from across the region come to trade cattle, sheep and goats.
From above, the town appears as a loose grid of sandy streets and walled compounds, spreading out across open ground with few natural barriers. Roads and tracks radiate outwards towards neighbouring villages and the main routes to Louga and Linguère. Beyond the edge of town the land is wide and open, with scattered trees and paths worn by herds.
A Dara map poster shows a settlement shaped by movement and trade instead of rivers or hills. The streets spread evenly, and the tracks leading away from it tell of the herders and traders who pass through. The image is simple and open, which matches the Sahelian landscape it comes from.
Dara's market is one of the best-known livestock trading places in Senegal. It gives the town its role as a meeting point for the region's herders.
Sandy streets and compounds are laid out loosely across flat land, giving the map a spacious, regular pattern.
Roads and paths lead out in many directions across the grazing land, connecting the town to villages across the Djolof.
