Te mapa
Daxing’anling is a prefecture in the far north of Heilongjiang, named after the Greater Khingan Range that covers most of its territory. It is less a single city than a huge forested region, with about half a million people spread across small towns. The administrative seat, Jiagedaqi, lies in the south, and the land stretches north to the Amur River.
From above, the region looks almost empty. Long rail lines and roads follow river valleys through dense forest and link logging towns and small settlements. The Amur, called the Heilongjiang in Chinese, forms the northern border with Russia. Near it lies Mohe, the northernmost county-level city in China, where visitors come for the deep winter cold and a chance to see the northern lights.
A Daxing’anling map poster works best centred on one of its towns, where a small grid sits in a river valley surrounded by forest. The sparse lines and winding streams give the map an open, spacious quality, quite unlike a dense city, and they suit a minimalist style well.
Most of the prefecture is forest and mountain, so wider maps show long empty stretches crossed only by rivers, rail lines and a few thin roads.
The river marks the northern boundary with Russia. Its wide meanders give the top of any northern framing a strong, dramatic line.
Small towns sit along river valleys and rail routes, each a compact grid surrounded by forest, which makes them clear and self-contained subjects for a poster.

Koteā ko Daxing’anling
For many people Daxing’anling is tied to work and memory: forestry families, railway jobs, winters spent far from the rest of China. A map of a valley town surrounded by forest pays quiet tribute to that life, and it looks calm and spacious on a wall.
Name your town in the title, add a date or family name in the subtitle and edit the coordinates line. Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand all suit the sparse lines. Choose the $9 HD download or a printed poster.
