Te mapa
Dayang lies in eastern Gansu, on the Loess Plateau, a landscape of wind-blown soil carved by water into deep gullies and flat-topped ridges. Towns in this region tend to follow the valley bottoms. The map shows a settlement strung along its roads, with streets branching into side valleys wherever the ground allows. The shape is linear and follows the land, never quite a grid.
Around the town, the hillsides are farmed, often on terraces that hold the soil in place, and rural roads climb in switchbacks toward higher ground. On a monochrome print, the main visual interest is the contrast between the dense valley settlement and the branching pattern of gullies and tracks, like the veins of a leaf spreading out from a central stem.
A Dayang map poster suits people who come from this part of Gansu, or who have spent time on the Loess Plateau and remember its carved terrain. The poster does not invent landmarks. It simply shows how the roads and houses are arranged, which is itself a record of how people have lived with this land.
The built-up area follows the flat ground of the valley, stretching along the main road and giving the map a strong linear composition.
Erosion has cut the plateau into branching gullies, and the roads and paths that follow them form a tree-like pattern around the town.
Farmland on the surrounding hillsides follows the terraced pattern common across the Loess Plateau, adding rows of fine, curving lines to the countryside.
