Te mapa
Dobo is the main town of the Aru Islands, in Indonesia's Maluku province. It sits on the small island of Wamar, off the western side of the larger Aru islands. From above, the town fills a low stretch of land beside a sheltered channel. Short streets and waterfront buildings crowd toward the harbour.
Aru has long been known for pearls and for birds of paradise. In the 1850s the naturalist Alfred Russel Wallace stayed in Dobo during the trading season. He described it as a busy gathering point for traders from across the eastern archipelago.
A Dobo map poster is as much about the water as about the town. The coastline, the channel and the neighbouring islands frame a small, dense settlement. They give the composition generous open space and a strong sense of place at the edge of the sea.
A sheltered channel runs beside the town and separates Wamar from the larger islands. It is the calm open centre of the composition.
Streets and buildings press toward the shore on low ground. They form a small, dense cluster that stands out against the surrounding water.
Nearby islands and mangrove-lined shores appear around the edges. Their irregular coastlines add soft, organic shapes to the print.

Koteā ko Dobo
Dobo is a map for people from the Aru Islands, and for travellers who reached this far corner of Maluku. Its coastlines and channel make a striking, quiet image that needs no explanation.
