Dondo lies in Sofala Province, a short distance inland from the port city of Beira. From above, it reads as a corridor town. The main road and the railway heading west from the coast run straight through it, and most of the settlement has grown along these two routes. Blocks thin out quickly into cultivated land and low, wet ground.
The surrounding terrain is part of the flat plain near the Pungwe estuary, so the map has almost no contour drama. What it offers instead is texture. There are irregular lanes between plots, a denser core near the junctions, and a scatter of tracks that fade into fields. In black and white this gives a loose, hand-drawn quality you rarely see in planned cities.
Dondo's place on the Beira corridor, the transport link between the Indian Ocean coast and the interior of southern Africa, explains much of its shape. The region was also hit hard by Cyclone Idai in 2019. A Dondo map poster shows a town defined less by monuments than by the routes that pass through it and the people who settled beside them.

Flat, often waterlogged ground surrounds the settlement. On the map this shows as open space and sparse tracks, which frames the built-up core with a lot of quiet paper.
Away from the main routes, lanes curve and branch informally between plots. This gives the print a fine, irregular grain that contrasts with the straight transport lines.

Koteā ko Dondo
For people from Dondo or with family in Sofala, this map records a specific kind of home, a place people pass through that others call their own. It also suits anyone who has worked on the Beira corridor and wants a quiet reminder of it on the wall.
You can set your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps a family name or the year you moved. Then choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The HD files are $9, and printed, framed copies are available too.
