Te mapa
Gweru, known as Gwelo until 1982, is the capital of the Midlands Province and one of Zimbabwe's larger cities. On a map its centre is a clear rectangular grid of broad streets, laid out after the town's founding in the 1890s. The Gweru River passes on the western side, and suburbs spread outward across gently rolling, open country.
The centre is anchored by the Boggie Clock Tower, a familiar landmark at a major intersection. The city is home to Midlands State University, and Thornhill Air Base lies on its outskirts. Farming and mining country surrounds Gweru, reached by roads and railway lines that converge here from Harare, Bulawayo and other towns across the Midlands.
A Gweru map poster shows the order of the old grid, the looser pattern of later suburbs and the wide landscape beyond. The river adds a gentle, curving line against the regular streets. It is a strong design for anyone with ties to the city, whether through family, study at the university or years spent working in the Midlands.
The city centre follows a regular pattern of wide, straight streets and rectangular blocks, making it the most structured and recognisable part of the map.
The river winds past the western edge of the centre, a soft line contrasting with the orderly streets and marking a natural boundary.
Main roads and railway lines from Harare and Bulawayo meet at Gweru, crossing the map as long lines through the surrounding open country.

Koteā ko Gweru
Gweru is a city of students, rail workers, farmers and families, many of whom have since moved elsewhere. A clean map of its grid and river is a quiet way to keep that place present, wherever home is now.
