Te mapa
El Progreso sits in the Sula Valley in northern Honduras, on the Ulúa River, a short drive from San Pedro Sula. The land is flat and fertile, and the city's streets follow an orderly grid that stops at the river's wide, shifting bed. From above, the contrast between straight blocks and the looping river is the main visual story.
The city grew with the banana industry in the early twentieth century, when American fruit companies built railways and plantations across the valley. That history still shapes the map: straight roads cutting across open land, rail alignments and the regular edges of agricultural fields. Locals often call the city the Pearl of the Ulúa.
An El Progreso map poster shows a city defined by its river and its plain. The grid fills the centre neatly, the Ulúa bends along its edge, and roads leave in straight lines towards San Pedro Sula, Tela and the Yoro hills. It is a clear, balanced composition of water and order.
The broad river curves along the city's edge, its wide channel and sandbars forming the strongest natural line on the map.
Straight streets and square blocks fill the core, a regular pattern made possible by the flat land of the Sula Valley.
Long, direct roads leave the city across former banana plantations, linking it to San Pedro Sula and the Caribbean coast.
