Te mapa
El Salto is the main town of Pueblo Nuevo municipality in Durango, set high in the Sierra Madre Occidental on the highway between the city of Durango and Mazatlán on the Pacific coast. At an altitude of well over two thousand metres, it is one of the higher towns in the region, with cold winters and pine forest all around.
Forestry has long been central to its economy, and the surrounding mountains are covered in the pine and oak woods that supply its sawmills. From above the town appears as an irregular grid of streets following the highway and the uneven ground, with roads and tracks leading off into the forested ridges.
An El Salto map poster shows a mountain town shaped by its road and its terrain. The highway provides a strong, curving spine, the town clusters along it, and the empty spaces of the forested sierra fill the frame. For people from Durango, and for travellers who have crossed the Sierra Madre, it is a distinctive image.
The road between Durango and Mazatlán runs through El Salto, forming the dominant line on the poster as it curves through the mountains.
The streets try to follow a grid but bend with the uneven terrain, creating a slightly irregular pattern around the highway.
Pine-covered ridges surround the town, appearing as open space crossed by logging roads and tracks that thin out toward the edges.

Koteā ko El Salto
El Salto suits people from the Durango highlands and anyone with memories of the cold mountain air and the long drive over the Sierra Madre. The map has a rugged, open character unlike lowland towns.
Personalise the title, add a subtitle with a date or family name, and edit the coordinates. Noir and Blueprint suit the mountains, and Classic black & white, Paper and Sand are also available.
