Encantado Map Poster & Print
Encantado lies in the Vale do Taquari in Rio Grande do Sul, a hilly region settled largely by Italian immigrants in the late nineteenth century. The town stretches along the Taquari River. From above, a riverside core on the lower ground gives way to streets that climb steep, green slopes on both sides.
The town has become widely known for the Cristo Protetor, a statue of Christ on a hilltop above the town. It is taller than the famous statue in Rio de Janeiro and has drawn many visitors since it opened. The river has also shaped recent history, with severe floods reaching Encantado and much of the valley in 2023 and 2024.
