Te mapa
Estácio is a neighbourhood in central Rio de Janeiro, just north of the downtown area and close to Cidade Nova and Rio Comprido. On the map, it sits where the flat city centre meets the first steep hills. Streets are short and dense, and large roads and elevated structures pass through on their way between the city's zones.
The district holds a special place in the history of samba. Deixa Falar, founded in Estácio in 1928, is widely regarded as the first samba school. Musicians from the neighbourhood helped shape the rhythm that became associated with Rio's carnival. The Sambadrome, where the parades take place, lies nearby in Cidade Nova.
An Estácio map poster reflects both the density and the connections of the area. The metro station and major avenues link it to every part of Rio, while hillside communities rise beside the regular blocks. On paper, you see a compact urban grid breaking against the terrain, a pattern typical of the old centre.
The street grid ends abruptly where steep hills begin, and irregular paths climb the slopes in a pattern very different from the flat blocks below.
Broad roads and elevated structures cross the neighbourhood, linking the centre to the north and west zones and drawing strong lines across the map.
Estácio is the home of Deixa Falar, often called the first samba school. The Sambadrome parade route lies close by in neighbouring Cidade Nova.

Koteā ko Estácio
Estácio means a lot to anyone who loves samba or grew up in central Rio. A map of its streets and hills suits a musician, a carnival enthusiast or someone who once called the neighbourhood home.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps with a samba school's founding year or your own date. Choose from five styles: Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand.
