Fakfak is a town on the south coast of the Bomberai Peninsula, in the western part of New Guinea, Indonesia. On a map it is squeezed between the sea and steep hills. The waterfront and harbour form one edge, and the streets climb the slopes behind in short, winding segments.
The region has long been known for nutmeg, and Fakfak nutmeg is still one of its best-known products. The coast nearby is also known for ancient rock paintings on cliffs above the water. The town itself is small and built densely wherever the terrain allows, with forest covering the higher ground.
