Te mapa
Fray Bentos sits on the eastern bank of the Uruguay River, capital of the Río Negro Department. From above, it shows a clear orthogonal grid of blocks meeting the curve of the riverbank, with the wide water forming the western edge of the map and Argentina on the far shore.
The town is known worldwide for the meat-processing plant founded in the nineteenth century, where the Liebig company produced meat extract and, later, corned beef that carried the name Fray Bentos around the world. The complex and its setting were inscribed as the Fray Bentos Industrial Landscape on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2015.
A Fray Bentos map poster brings together the regular streets of the town, the long riverside frontage and, upstream, the General San Martín International Bridge that links Uruguay with Argentina. In a minimalist style, the river becomes a broad field of negative space, and the grid and industrial site stand out with unusual clarity.
The former meat-processing complex on the riverbank, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, forms a distinct cluster of buildings and piers set apart from the town grid.
The wide river defines the western edge of the map, its smooth shoreline contrasting with the regular blocks that run right up to the water.
The General San Martín Bridge crosses the river upstream of town, drawing a long straight line that connects Fray Bentos with the Argentine shore.

Koteā ko Fray Bentos
Fray Bentos appeals to people with family ties to the town, to those interested in industrial heritage and to anyone who remembers the name from a tin of corned beef. A map places that familiar name in its real geography.
