Te mapa
Guaraí lies in central Tocantins, one of Brazil's newest states, on the BR-153, the long Belém–Brasília highway that opened this part of the interior to settlement. On the map, the highway is the town's backbone: a straight line running north to south, with blocks of streets arranged on either side.
The layout is regular and fairly spacious, typical of interior Brazilian towns that grew quickly in the second half of the twentieth century. Wide avenues, rectangular blocks and a few open squares fill the centre, while the outer streets fade into farmland and cerrado. A Guaraí map poster brings out that clean geometry against the surrounding open country.
The region lives mainly from cattle ranching and farming, and the land beyond the town shows it: large parcels, long straight tracks and patches of native vegetation along streams. From above it is a crossroads town at the heart of the Brazilian interior.
The Belém–Brasília highway runs straight through town, the defining line of the poster, with urban blocks set out along it.
A planned grid of wide streets and rectangular blocks fills the centre, giving the map an orderly, open feel.
Beyond the last streets lie ranchland and native cerrado, with stream corridors adding irregular shapes to the outer frame.
