Te mapa
Imperatriz lies in the southwest of Maranhão, on the eastern bank of the Tocantins River, which forms the border with Tocantins state at this point. It is the second-largest city in Maranhão and an important regional centre for trade and services across a wide area of northern Brazil.
From above, the city follows the river in a long band. The centre, near the water, has a regular grid of streets, and newer neighbourhoods extend inland in large blocks. The Belém–Brasília highway, one of the key roads linking northern Brazil to the rest of the country, runs through the city and contributed greatly to its growth.
An Imperatriz map poster shows a city defined by its river and its road. The broad Tocantins provides a strong edge on one side, the grid of streets fills the urban area and the highway cuts through it in a long line. The result is a clear, well-balanced composition that suits the black and white format.
The wide river runs along the western edge of the city, forming a clean, strong boundary and marking the border between the states of Maranhão and Tocantins.
Much of the city follows a grid of straight streets and rectangular blocks, extending from the river toward newer districts on the higher ground to the east.
The major federal highway passes through the city in a long line, a route that connected Imperatriz to the rest of Brazil and shaped its expansion.
