Two great rivers
The Kiso and Nagara rivers run along either side of the city. Their wide beds and embankments form bold parallel boundaries that frame everything in between.

Te mapa
Hashima lies in the south of Gifu Prefecture, on the Nōbi Plain between two of central Japan's great rivers, the Kiso to the east and the Nagara to the west. Their broad channels and levees frame the map. The city fills the land between them with a mix of dense neighbourhoods, rice fields and irrigation channels.
This low ground has a long history of flooding, and the wider region is known for wajū, communities once enclosed by protective ring levees. The pattern is gentler today but still visible. Raised embankments line the rivers, roads follow old field lines, and residential blocks are scattered among farm plots rather than packed into a single centre.
A Hashima map poster also shows the Tōkaidō Shinkansen, which crosses the city in a straight elevated line and stops at Gifu-Hashima Station. The area has long been associated with textiles, particularly wool fabrics. On the print, two wide rivers, fine field textures and a single high-speed line come together in a quietly sophisticated composition.
The Kiso and Nagara rivers run along either side of the city. Their wide beds and embankments form bold parallel boundaries that frame everything in between.
The Tōkaidō Shinkansen crosses Hashima in a precise straight stroke, and Gifu-Hashima Station marks the city's direct link to Tokyo and Osaka.
Rice fields, irrigation channels and embankments form a fine, layered pattern across the low plain, a landscape shaped by centuries of managing water.

Koteā ko Hashima
Hashima is a place of quiet everyday life between two rivers, and its map captures that calm in a way few photographs can. For residents, former students or families with roots in Gifu, it makes a considered, personal piece for the wall.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line are yours to edit, and five styles are available: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Order a matte print with an optional wooden frame, or download the files and print locally.
