Te mapa
Hinnøya is the largest island along the Norwegian coast, leaving Svalbard aside, and it straddles the boundary between Nordland and Troms. Its outline is anything but compact: deep fjords reach far into the interior from every side, dividing it into peninsulas and mountain blocks. On a map it looks less like a single island than a cluster of landmasses held together by narrow necks of ground.
Harstad, the island's largest town, lies on its northeastern side along the Vågsfjorden. Smaller communities sit along the shores of the fjords, linked by roads that follow the water and cross the ridges only where they must. Bridges and tunnels connect Hinnøya to neighbouring islands and the mainland, part of the route that ties Lofoten and Vesterålen to the rest of Norway.
The mountainous southwest of the island rises to Møysalen, protected as a national park and one of the highest summits in the region. The coastline here is so long and intricate that a Hinnøya map poster becomes a study of water as much as land, with fjords tracing fine, branching lines across the frame.
The island's main town sits on its northeastern shore, where a denser web of streets gathers along the fjord and contrasts with the open mountains around it.
Long, branching fjords cut deep into Hinnøya from all sides, so the map shows water reaching almost to the island's centre in several places.
The high peaks in the southwest of the island are protected as a national park, an area without roads that leaves a wide, quiet space on the print.

Koteā ko Hinnøya
People from Harstad and the surrounding fjord communities often want a map that shows the whole island rather than a single town, and Hinnøya's shape makes that rewarding. It is also a strong piece for anyone who has driven the road north from Lofoten.
Choose one of five styles and personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line. Blueprint suits the fjord lines especially well. Digital files come in six print sizes, and printed posters can be ordered with an optional wooden frame.
