Te mapa
Lake Inari lies in Finnish Lapland, well north of the Arctic Circle, and is the country's third largest lake. On a map it barely looks like a lake at all. It is filled with more than 3,000 islands, and its shoreline is broken into countless bays, points and sounds.
Settlement is light. The village of Inari sits near the southwestern shore and is an important centre for Sámi culture, and a few roads touch the water at scattered points, but most of the shoreline is forest and wilderness. The lake drains northeast via the Paatsjoki river, which flows through Russia and Norway to the Barents Sea.
Among the islands, Ukonsaari is known as a traditional sacred site for the Sámi. A Lake Inari map poster shows a speckled, nearly abstract pattern of land and water, where the density comes from the islands rather than from streets.
The lake is filled with more than 3,000 islands, from larger forested ones to tiny specks, creating a dense and intricate pattern.
On the southwestern shore the village forms one of the few built-up areas, a small cluster of streets beside the lake and river.
This small island is a traditional sacred site for the Sámi and a recognised point in a lake otherwise marked by unnamed islets.

Koteā ko Lake Inari
Inari is a place people remember for its silence: long summer light, winter darkness, the northern lights over frozen water. A map of its countless islands brings that sense of distance into a room without sentimental imagery.
You can set your own title and subtitle, perhaps a date or the name of a cabin, and change the coordinates line. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, and print at any of six sizes up to 24×36″.
