Te mapa
Hitachiomiya lies in the hill country of northern Ibaraki Prefecture, north of Mito. The city in its current form was created in 2004 by merging the town of Ōmiya with neighbouring towns and villages. It covers a large area of valleys and wooded hills. On a map, the settlements follow the river valleys, leaving the forested ridges between them largely empty.
The Kuji and Naka rivers are the main lines of the landscape, winding through the city with rice fields on their flat floodplains. The JR Suigun Line follows the Kuji valley north toward Fukushima. The old Ōmiya centre sits on a terrace above the valley floor, with a compact network of streets.
A Hitachiomiya map poster shows rural Japan at its most legible: river curves, roads and railway along the valleys, villages strung out along them and long stretches of hill between. It is a calm composition with a strong sense of terrain.
The Kuji winds through the city in wide loops, bordered by paddy fields. It is the most graceful line on the map.
The railway follows the valley north, running beside the river and road. Its steady curve links the scattered settlements into a single corridor.
The old town centre forms a compact, dense street grid on higher ground. It stands out clearly against the surrounding farmland and forest.

Koteā ko Hitachiomiya
Hitachiomiya is the kind of place people return to for the seasons, the rivers and family homes. A map of it, titled with a family name or a year and a subtitle of your choice, keeps that valley close.
Paper and Sand suit the rural setting, and Noir gives the river loops a striking look. Classic black & white and Blueprint are also available. The HD files include 300 DPI PNG and PDF versions, with no watermark.
