Te mapa
Ho Man Tin sits on raised ground in central Kowloon, between the flatter districts of Yau Ma Tei, Hung Hom and Kowloon City. On a map this shows in the roads. Instead of the straight grid of the Kowloon peninsula below, streets loop and curve around the hill, following the contours to reach residential estates, low-rise private housing and school campuses.
The area is known as a residential and educational district. Several schools and a university campus sit on its slopes, and Ho Man Tin station opened in 2016 as an interchange on the MTR network. Compared with the densest parts of Kowloon, it has a quieter, greener feel, with small parks and planted banks between the buildings.
A Ho Man Tin map poster shows a hill neighbourhood inside one of the world's densest cities. The looping roads of the upland form a clear pattern against the more rigid streets at its edges. In monochrome, the result is intricate but calm, a precise portrait of one corner of Kowloon for anyone who has lived or studied there.
Streets wind around the hill in long loops and bends. They stand out clearly from the straighter grid of the surrounding Kowloon districts.
Large housing estates and school grounds appear as broad blocks. Their shapes break up the finer pattern of smaller streets.
Small parks and planted hillsides fill the gaps between buildings. They give the map open spaces that are rare in central Kowloon.

Former students, long-time residents and families who moved away often keep a strong attachment to a particular Hong Kong neighbourhood. A map of Ho Man Tin captures that local scale, down to the bends of the roads that lead home.
