Te mapa
Kowloon City is one of Hong Kong's eighteen districts, and its map covers a surprising range of urban forms. In the east, the former Kai Tak airport runway projects into Kowloon Bay as a long, narrow strip, now redeveloped with a cruise terminal, parkland and new housing. Inland, the compact streets of the old Kowloon City area pack small blocks tightly together.
To the south, Hung Hom and To Kwa Wan meet the harbour with a mix of residential towers, rail yards and waterfront promenades. North and west, Ho Man Tin and Kowloon Tong rise onto hillier ground with lower-density streets and many schools. A Kowloon City map poster shows how quickly the texture shifts, from very fine street grain to open campus grounds and reclaimed land.
The district contains the site of the former Kowloon Walled City, once one of the most densely populated places on earth and demolished in the early 1990s; its footprint is now a public park. Kai Tak, known for its low approach over rooftops, closed in 1998, and its land is being transformed into a new district with a large sports park.
The old runway extends as a long straight finger into Kowloon Bay, ending at the cruise terminal. On a map it remains the district's boldest single line.
A compact rectangle of landscaped ground marks where the Walled City once stood, a quiet green block among the dense surrounding streets.
Along the southern harbour front, rail tracks, towers and promenades meet the water, forming a sharp edge across Victoria Harbour from Hong Kong Island.
