Te mapa
Tsuen Wan was one of Hong Kong's first new towns, built from the 1960s on a strip of land between steep mountainsides and the sea. Much of the flat ground is reclaimed. On the map, the dense town centre follows the shoreline in a long band. Streets and podiums fill every level metre, and roads climb in switchbacks up into the hills behind.
Behind the town rises Tai Mo Shan, the highest peak in Hong Kong. Its country park fills the upper part of any Tsuen Wan map poster with blank, contoured ground. The steep slope ends suddenly at the edge of the housing estates, a sharp line typical of Hong Kong, where development is packed tightly between hill and water.
To the south, the Rambler Channel separates Tsuen Wan from Tsing Yi island, and container terminals and bridges tie them together. Tsuen Wan is the terminus of the MTR line that bears its name. The restored Hakka walled village of Sam Tung Uk, now a museum, is a reminder of the settlement that stood here before the towers.

Hong Kong's highest peak rises directly behind the town. Its protected slopes fill the upper part of the map with open space and winding paths.
A narrow strait separates Tsuen Wan from Tsing Yi. Bridges and container terminals line its banks, adding bold shapes along the water.

Koteā ko Tsuen Wan
Tsuen Wan is home to hundreds of thousands of people, and many Hong Kong families have a story connected to its estates. A map of the town between mountain and sea is a clear portrait of that everyday world.
