Te mapa
Hoshiārpur sits where the flat, farmed plain of Punjab begins to tilt toward the Shivalik hills. From above, the city appears as a dense core of narrow lanes and closely packed blocks. Newer residential colonies, institutional grounds and roads leading out toward neighbouring towns loosen its margins. The surrounding land is a patchwork of fields, crossed by the seasonal streams the district calls chos.
Those chos are the quiet signature of the area. For much of the year they are dry sandy beds, but in the monsoon they carry runoff from the foothills. On a map they show as pale, braided channels cutting across the grid of fields, and the roads leaving the city cross them on bridges and causeways.
The city is known across India for its tradition of wood inlay work, in which local craftsmen set fine patterns into furniture and boxes. A Hoshiārpur map poster reflects a similar patience in black line work. It shows an old core drawn in tight detail, wider streets fanning outward, and the open, streaked countryside that frames it on every side.
A tight knot of lanes and small blocks at the centre, where the street network is densest and the older layout of the town is still easy to read.
The chos that run down from the Shivalik hills appear as wide, pale bands crossing the plain. They are dry for most of the year and full during the monsoon.
Beyond the city limits the ground rises toward the Shivalik range, and the regular field pattern gives way to the irregular contours of the first low hills.
