Te mapa
Huangzhou is the central district of Huanggang in eastern Hubei, on the northern bank of the Yangtze opposite the city of Ezhou. On a map the river dominates, a wide band running along the town's southern side. The street network is pressed against the bank and spreads inland across low ground dotted with lakes.
Bridges now cross the Yangtze to Ezhou, drawing long strokes over the water, and the town has expanded well beyond its old core into newer districts with wide roads and large blocks. The older centre near the river keeps a denser, more irregular pattern, and a Huangzhou map poster shows the contrast clearly.
The town has a lasting literary association. The poet Su Shi, also known as Su Dongpo, spent several years here in exile in the eleventh century. While here he wrote some of his most celebrated works, including the Red Cliff poems, inspired by the reddish bluffs now known as Dongpo Red Cliff. They remain the town's best-known landmark.
The river runs along the town in a broad, gently curving band, and its width makes it the most powerful element of the whole composition.
The cliffs associated with Su Shi's poems stand near the old town, now a park and landmark that shows up as a green pocket among the surrounding streets.
Bridges to Ezhou span the Yangtze, their long straight lines linking the two banks and tying Huangzhou into the wider region.

Koteā ko Huangzhou
Huangzhou appeals to readers of classical Chinese poetry as much as to people from Huanggang. The map places the town beside the Yangtze that inspired Su Shi, a riverbank setting that still defines its shape.
