Te mapa
Huangshi lies in eastern Hubei on the southern bank of the Yangtze. On the map it is long and narrow, a ribbon of districts following the river downstream, with ridges and hills closing in from the south. Near the middle sits Ci Lake, a large irregular body of water. The city's streets wrap around its shores, which gives the centre an unusual open heart.
Mining and metalworking run deep here. The ancient copper workings at Tonglushan, near Daye, date back more than two thousand years. In the modern era the area supplied iron ore to one of China's first large steel enterprises. Quarries, rail spurs and works sites still show up on the ground as broad, angular shapes among the residential grid.
A Huangshi map poster brings together water, rock and industry. The Yangtze makes a strong edge along one side of the frame, the lake cuts a pale space into the centre, and the hills break the street pattern into pockets. It is a composition with more contrast than most cities of its size.
The city runs along the river for many kilometres, and bridge crossings stretch north towards the Hubei plain. The Yangtze gives the poster a wide, confident band of water.
This lake sits in the middle of the urban area, ringed by roads and parkland, so the densest streets curve around open water instead of meeting at a central square.
The terrain of former mines and quarries, including the historic Tonglushan copper site nearby, leaves irregular blocks and cut slopes that set Huangshi apart from planned grid cities.

Koteā ko Huangshi
Huangshi is a working city, and people who grew up there often remember the river, the lake and the steelworks together. A map puts all three in one frame and keeps the shape of home within easy view.
