Te mapa
Huarmey sits on the arid coast of the Ancash region, where the Huarmey River comes down from the Andes and reaches the Pacific. From above, the pattern is typical of the Peruvian coast: a strip of irrigated green following the river through otherwise bare desert, with the town gathered where the valley widens toward the sea.
The Pan-American Highway runs through the area on its long route north and south, and the streets of the town lie in a fairly regular grid beside it. Toward the shore the land flattens into beach and port, and the contrast between cultivated valley, built blocks and empty desert comes out very strongly in monochrome.
Huarmey is known to archaeologists for El Castillo de Huarmey, where an undisturbed royal tomb of the Wari culture was found in 2013, one of the most significant finds in Peru in recent decades. A Huarmey map poster pairs that deep past with the plain lines of a working coastal town.
The Huarmey River cuts a green corridor through the coastal desert, and the fields along it form the only dense texture outside the town grid.
The great coastal highway passes the town, drawing a long, confident line across the map that ties Huarmey to the rest of Peru.
To the west, the land ends in a clean edge of beach and sea, giving the composition a strong boundary and a wide empty field of ocean.
