Te mapa
Humaitá stands on the left bank of the Madeira River in the south of Amazonas state, one of the great tributaries of the Amazon. The town sits on a stretch of firm ground above the water, with a regular street grid set back from the riverbank and forest, savanna and wetland opening out in every direction beyond the last blocks.
Its position is unusual for the region: Humaitá is where the Trans-Amazonian Highway, BR-230, meets BR-319, the long road linking Manaus with Porto Velho. That makes it a point where river and road transport intersect, and the town has grown as a local centre for trade, services and education in southern Amazonas.
A Humaitá map poster shows the Madeira as a broad, powerful band along one side, the compact grid of the town beside it, and the highways leaving in long straight lines across otherwise open country. It is a clear image of how settlement in the Amazon often gathers where water and road meet.
The wide Madeira flows past the town on its way to the Amazon, forming the largest shape on the map and defining Humaitá's long waterfront edge.
The Trans-Amazonian Highway and BR-319 meet near Humaitá, and on the poster they appear as long straight lines running out from the grid into open land.
Humaitá's streets follow a regular planned grid set back from the river, creating a compact and balanced block pattern that contrasts with the open landscape around it.

Koteā ko Humaitá
Humaitá is a meaningful map for families from southern Amazonas, for teachers and researchers who spent time there, and for travellers who crossed the Transamazônica. It captures the scale of the landscape in a very simple composition.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, perhaps with a journey date or a family name, and choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Blueprint gives the river and highways a striking, map-room quality.
