Te mapa
Ifanadiana lies in southeastern Madagascar, in the band of steep country where the central highlands fall away toward the Indian Ocean coast. On a map the setting matters more than the street plan. Ridges and valleys fold tightly around the town, and roads and tracks follow the contours instead of cutting straight through them.
The town is the centre of a district that includes part of Ranomafana National Park, known for its rainforest and its lemurs. Beyond the protected forest, valley floors are often laid out as rice paddies, and small settlements are linked by footpaths and minor roads. Watercourses thread through the terrain in narrow, branching lines.
An Ifanadiana map poster is less about monuments than about the land itself. It shows a small built-up area held within a network of slopes and streams, and a road that climbs and turns as it links the highlands with the coast. In black and white, that relationship between settlement and terrain comes through clearly.
The land around Ifanadiana is folded into steep ridges and valleys. On the map this gives the town a close, enclosed setting shaped by the terrain.
The main route through the area bends constantly as it follows the slopes between the highlands and the east coast. Its line shows how difficult the terrain is.
Part of Ranomafana National Park lies within the district. Its rainforest is known for lemurs and for being one of the island's most closely studied protected areas.
