Te mapa
Irituia lies in northeastern Pará, in the part of the state drained by rivers that flow toward the Guamá and on to Belém. The town grew up along the river that shares its name. Seen from above, a small, fairly orderly grid of streets rests against the water, and the land around it opens into a patchwork of fields, secondary forest and scattered rural homesteads.
This is a municipality where rivers were long the main routes, and the map still shows it. The riverbank shapes the edge of town, and the roads that leave it head inland through farming country. Much of the municipality is rural, and the town itself is small enough that its whole street plan fits comfortably on one sheet.
An Irituia map poster turns that relationship between town and river into a clean composition. The wide pale band of water sits beside the fine black lines of the streets. It suits people from the town and families with ties to the Guamá region, and it also suits anyone drawn to the quieter river towns of the eastern Amazon.
The river that gives the town its name curves along the settlement. On the poster it is a broad blank shape that sets the streets in their place.
The centre follows a simple, near-rectangular layout, typical of small towns in Pará, and its regularity stands out against the organic river edge.
A few roads leave the grid and head away from the water, tracing the links between the town and the farms and communities of the surrounding municipality.
