Itoman Map Poster & Print

Itoman occupies the southern end of Okinawa Island. Its western side faces the East China Sea, where the old town and fishing port sit beside newer land reclaimed along the coast. Inland, the land rises into low limestone ridges covered with sugarcane fields and small villages, crossed by winding roads.

The town has a strong maritime tradition. Its fishermen were known across the Ryukyu Islands and beyond, famous for their sabani boats and for diving. The southern coast at Mabuni, where the Battle of Okinawa ended in 1945, is now the Okinawa Peace Memorial Park, visited by people from across Japan.

An Itoman map poster sets the geometric harbour and reclaimed blocks on the west coast against the looser rural roads inland. The irregular coral coastline wraps around the south. In black and white, the sea becomes a wide field of calm space around the island's tip.

01

Fishing harbour

The port and reclaimed land on the western coast form straight edges and sharp angles. Together they make a strong man-made shape against the sea.

02

Southern coastline

The shore curves around the island's tip in coves and cliffs. It gives the poster an intricate, natural outline.

03

Mabuni hills

The memorial park sits on the southern coast. The land there rises toward the sea, surrounded by quiet roads and open space.
