Te mapa
Jolo is the main island of the Sulu Archipelago in the southern Philippines, between Mindanao and Borneo. From above it is an irregular, somewhat elongated island with a hilly, volcanic interior, where old cones rise above farmland and forest. Roads run around much of the coast and cross between the scattered towns, following the lower ground between the hills.
Jolo town, on the north coast, was for centuries the seat of the Sultanate of Sulu, a maritime power that traded across the seas of Southeast Asia. Its harbour and older quarters form the densest part of the map, with streets fanning out from the waterfront toward the hills. Today it is the capital of the province of Sulu.
Bud Dajo, a volcanic cone southeast of the town, is protected as a national park and carries heavy historical weight as the scene of the 1906 Moro Crater massacre under American rule. A Jolo map poster frames the island with the surrounding sea, where the smaller islands of the archipelago trail away southwest toward Borneo.
The old port on the north coast is the island's main urban core, a tight cluster of streets and piers facing the sea lanes that once connected the sultanate.
Several rounded peaks rise across the interior, among them Bud Dajo. Roads bend around their slopes, giving the map a soft, clustered topography.
Towns and roads mostly keep to the shore, forming an uneven loop around the island, with shorter routes cutting across the lower ground between the hills.
